A Day in Florence

We started the day at the Duomo as we figured the 463 steps to the top would require our most energy! From there we did some window shopping on our way to Santa Maria Novella. We grabbed lunch before a gentle stroll along the Arno river to another famous bridge Ponte Vecchio (Has jewellery shops across both sides of the bridge). From there we viewed the Ufizzi Gallery enroute to the Palazzo Vecchio and the Piazza Signoria where a replica David is among other statues. We toured back to Santa Croce Church (near our apartment) and viewed the market in the piazza before heading for a short siesta. We went shopping and both of us were successful in improving our fashion presence! We then walked to the south side of the river and began the trek uphill (did not count the number of steps...) to the Piazzale Michelangelo (a view of the entire city) on our way to the San Miniato Church and Santo Spirito Church. Supper may have been the entertainment of the night as Darren and the waiter had a little mistunderstanding when they showed up a 1 Kg (2.2lb) Florentine Steak roughly 2 inches thick and served on a cutting board!! Pete you would be proud as Darren completed the entire steak and states that it was THE BEST STEAK he has ever had bar none. Anyways it gave the restaurant staff a good chuckle, but they provided us a fantastic desert wine on the house. Tomorrow we are off to the Cinque Terra. Ciao!

  1. I should have warned you about the Florentine steaks...I can't beleive Darren ate a whole one himself! Darren should be proud of himself, that is quite an accomplishment (and borderline digusting).

  2. What I would have done for a baby pudding sitting across the table from me with a bowl of sour cream and stingy & bitey in another seat mowing down on a a bag of pork rines...
We got speaking to the couple at the next table and they have been visiting Italy for 20 years and they have also experienced the florentine steak but they received 2 kilos for a two person serving!

  5. Hi Danielle and Darrin, hope you are having a wonderful trip. Don't drink too much of that funny beer or the vino - don't want you to get sick and then not be able to enjoy your trip. I am jealous but not enough to want to give up watching my cunucks play hockey tonight! And I am having a fabulous time golfing!!! Enjoy

    Love Grandma
